I provide academic tuition for children in years 3-6. Choose from a variety of options to suit your budget and needs. Options include individual tuition (1-to-1) or small group tuition (max 5 children) as well as in-person or online sessions.
Learning should be enjoyable, so my approach is supportive, flexible and stress-free – always.
Maths is the subject that parents struggle to support more than any other with maths anxiety being widespread. An estimated 25% of people have maths learning difficulties with around 6% having dyscalculia, so it’s no wonder that it can cause anxiety.
My maths tuition reduces any anxiety by being fun, engaging and multi-sensory, which makes maths more meaningful, accessible and enjoyable.
Every session is tailored to your child’s needs, so whether they need help to build confidence in core skills, support to reinforce school learning or extending and challenging, I can help!
English is a broad subject which includes reading fluency, reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, handwriting, grammar, punctuation and creative writing.
It’s common for children to have strengths in some areas and weaknesses in others. It can be another difficult subject for parents to support all areas, particularly if English is a second language at home.
Additionally, around 10% of the population has dyslexia which can have a big impact on learning and self-belief. I’m experienced with supporting dyslexic learners and have a range of strategies to help them overcome barriers.
Whether your child needs general support across all areas or there are specific skills they’d like to master, I can tailor sessions to help them reach their individual goals.
If you are planning for when your child moves up to secondary school you might be considering applying for a grammar school. If so, they need to prepare for 11 Plus entrance exams – which can understandably be quite a daunting, long-term task for busy parents to undertake.
I offer 11+ tuition to children in years 4 and 5 so that they have the subject knowledge, strategies, test techniques and confidence to tackle the exams when the time comes.
Grammar schools can choose the subjects, format and exam board for their exams. I specialise in preparing children for the GL exams and have experience with other boards including independent school exams.
Subjects tested can include any or all of the following:
Exam content varies widely between schools but children need to be prepared for any topic in the national curriculum up to the end of year 6 to appear in the tests.
Most exams take place when children are at the start of year 6, so it’s important to cover everything in good time.
These aren’t subjects as such, so they aren’t taught at school. These exams test children’s thinking skills rather than their knowledge.
Reasoning involves thinking logically to understand, problem-solve and draw conclusions.
Verbal reasoning involves written information (letters and words).
Non-verbal reasoning involves diagrams, pictures and shapes.
