Meeting children where they are...

…not where they ‘should’ be. Every child’s learning needs, abilities and interests are unique. I take time to understand their strengths, weaknesses and learning preferences so that I can provide meaningful learning opportunities – all whilst building confidence and having fun!

Learning is not ‘one size fits all’

I know that the school day can be overwhelming for many. Learning with me is pressure-free, relaxed, adaptable and creative. I create opportunities for children to explore concepts with just the right amount of support and at their own pace.

Convenient tutoring options

Online tutoring? Or in-person sessions in my purpose-built garden learning room?

One-to-one or small group sessions?

Choose the options that are most convenient and suitable for your family!

My Mission

To support parents and help give their kids the resources and tools they need to scale barriers and see themselves as capable, confident and happy lifelong learners through meaningful learning opportunities.

Doing learning differently

Many children thrive at school, but what happens if…

… the pace of lessons is too fast?
… children aren’t developmentally ready for a concept?
… they aren’t neurotypical?
… there are gaps in their foundation knowledge?
… home learning during lockdown left them behind their peers?
… the school day is too hectic and noisy to focus on learning?
… there aren’t enough resources to support their individual needs?
… they exhaust themselves from spending all their energy trying to fit in each day?
… they lose confidence and develop anxiety about school?

What happens is that learning needs don’t get met and they need a different approach. The education system isn’t a good fit for all children. I hear from many parents who feel let down or blame themselves if their child doesn’t ‘fit the mould’.

So that’s where I come in, ready to support you with bespoke stress-free tutoring services as well as my best resources to help you make learning more fun, meaningful and tailored to your child’s individual learning needs.

Testimonials

We are really pleased to have found Gemma to support our 10 yr old daughter with her learning after a long period out of school through ill health - she looked forward to the sessions and enjoyed working with Gemma. We found her to be professional and empathetic; sessions were well planned and fun, and we appreciated the weekly feedback. Happy to recommend.

I just wanted to say on behalf of all of us how grateful we are for your input with E over the last year. She has improved massively under your guidance.

- Daniel

Our daughter loves her lessons with Gemma and we have certainly noticed her progression.

- Ian

We have just received some amazing post this morning. P has passed the required standard. The overall required standard for BSG was 299 & for Parkstone was 277. P's standardised score was 309 (English 101, Maths 104, Verbal 104). P is really proud of herself and has a big smile. We all say a very big thank you for all the help & support you have given P over the past year.

Gemma has been working with our 10YO ahead of her 11 plus. Our daughter struggles with holding her attention on tasks and is a little dyspraxic. This detracts from her innate intelligence when learning in a traditional sense. Gemma has devised innovative, interesting and often novel ways to engage her in learning the more difficult subject areas, and irrespective of outcome at the 11+ I'm confident that we chose the best way to maximize her potential.

- Jon

Gemma has been working with my son for nearly a year and we have found her excellent. My son really enjoys his hour with her and he is making excellent progress in his confidence and ability. I would definitely recommend her.

- Jenefer

I have had the pleasure of working previously with Gemma. She is a fantastic teacher with an incredible sense of focus and organisation. She has a good understanding of the curriculum throughout the primary age-range and can use this to adapt to the needs of the children under her tuition. It is clear how creativity as well as encouragement impacts on her teaching strategies and with this in mind, the children are inspired and motivated to learn under her guidance.

- Odette

Gemma is an incredibly creative practitioner. Her teaching is tailored to each child, and the relationships she fosters with young people allows them to progress at the highest of rates. Teaching is much more than just a job for Gemma; she derives so much joy from watching them blossom and reach their full potential

- Sophi

As a teacher Gemma is very skilled at connecting with pupils on a 1:1 basis and identifying and providing for their individual learning needs very well.
